The Two Types of Motivations

Laura introduces the two types of motivations: intrinsic and extrinsic.

Video Transcript: What we know about motivations is there are two types. There's extrinsic and intrinsic. Intrinsic motivation has to do with what internally drives you. Extrinsic are things on the outside. What we know from research is that when people are satisfied internally, intrinsically, that leads to a higher level of job satisfaction and fulfillment than extrinsic. So we think that money does motivate people; it just doesn't last very long. We think about the actual I get to learn; I need it. There's a challenge. Those are actually the motivations that lead to true job fulfillment.
