Where Did You Learn Your Management Skills From?

Discover why past management skills might not translate to the workplace of today.

Video Transcript: When I ask people where did you learn your management skills from? Across the board, majority of people will say, well, I learned it from the way I was managed. That's a huge red flag to me; because there's two big assumptions there: the first assumption is that the people you are learning from have learned it well or modeling perfect behavior and that they had studied best practices; probably not. The second thing is one thing we know over the last 50 years is that leadership acumen has multiplied by 10. That simply means the skills you have to know to navigate our current culture in our current generations; it's 10 times what you used to have to know 50 years ago. Some people say, oh, I learned my leadership skills from my last manager, 'Danger Will Robinson' that's what I have to tell people; we have to get current, and we have to hold each other accountable to continually learn and relearn our management skills.
