Favorite Leadership Tool

Laura shares her favorite leadership tool that she uses as a leader.

Video Transcript: One of my favorite leadership lessons as a leader to build trust is this phrase in times of uncertainty over-communicate. When we know what's happening when we can predict what people are doing, we don't need to over-communicate; we know exactly what's happening. But whenever there's a gap in knowledge, when I asked you to do something, and you thought it was going to take 10 minutes, it's going to take a whole day, but you don't tell me, my trust goes down. Whenever there's uncertainty, that's when you want to up your game and over-communicate. So when the quarantine happened, and we were all locked down, and I told leaders, if you used to have a daily staff meeting, now you meet twice a day, you used to meet weekly, now you meet daily, whatever's happening whenever there's uncertainty, that's when you up your communication. So just think about when you're interviewing for a job. If behind the scenes when they were making changes, if they had kept telling you as the interviewee your, your anxiety would have gone much lower. So in, anytime, there's uncertainty in any lapse in time and your communication, you want to over-communicate, that's when you want to dial that up, and it'll help build your trust and that around you.
