Three Ways to Give Criticism

Video Transcript: You're gonna make sure you include in this conversation a nonjudgmental question. A judgmental question would start with the word "why." It would say something like, why did you do that? What were you trying to accomplish? What were you thinking? Judgmental? That's not the humble relationship you want. My go-to question is, "Is there something going on that I don't know? Was there something happening outside of work? Was there something happening that I'm not aware of? There are some questions that I want you to have in your back pocket so that, in the moment, you can have that coaching conversation. So you've started with your introduction; you said, Hey, I think there's something in your behavior. I think there's something going on that's getting in your way. Are you in a spot here? And they say, yes, you're going to name that behavior and say, "Hey, I'm seeing something. Is there something going on that? I don't know about it. Why? Because you're assuming that there's something going on that you probably don't know about?
